Dandurite

     A rare but widely distributed mineral of Dolomire deposit, Danburite derives its name for its main source in Danbury Connecticut. Although occasionally golden or pink, the mineral resembles water-clear Topaz. Danburite crystals are typically slender and chisel-tipped, with a sparkly brilliance and clarity. Its form suggest one of its main functions; like a chisel, it chips away at obstacles, helping us to achieve our goals.

     Desert Rose is the colloquial name given to rose-like formations of crystal clusters of gypsum or baryte which include abundant sand grains. The “petals” are crystals flattened on the c crystallographic axis, fanning open in radiating flattened crystal clusters. The rosette crystal habit tends to occur when the crystals form in arid sandy conditions, such as the evaporation of a shallow salt basin. ​Desert Rose may also be known by the names: Sand Rose, Rose Rock, Selenite Rose, Gypsum Rose, and Baryte (Barite) Rose. Desert Rose symbolizes all things that are possible, they are said to be carved by the spirits of the American Indians.      In Medieval Italy, the diamond was known as the stone of reconciliation and was believed to prevent and resolve marital disputes. A diamond set in gold and worn on the left arm is said to protect one in battle, to ensure victory and to bestow courage and strength and to drive away any “nocturnal spectres” including the devil. Worn on the left hand, a diamond is said to protect against evil and bad luck generally and bring luck to the wearer. If you look too long at a diamond, it will confuse you and dazzle your mind. If a diamond is worn by a sinner, or someone untrustworthy, its magical energies will be weakened. A diamond’s magical energy works best if the diamond is given freely as a gift to the one who is using it. Diopside

     Diopside is a member of the pyroxene group of minerals, common in calcium-rich metamorphic rocks. Crystals are fairly rare – they are usually found as granular aggregates. The finest and most precious forms of Diopside is the “Black Moonstone”, which when cut as a cabochon shows a Star of Light (asterism) or a Cat’s Eye (chatoyancy). Traditionally, Black Moonstone offers protection form harmful influences and the “Evil Eye”. Diopsides of all types stimulate new cycles of growth and healing from deep within the body. They can also begin to reverse negative emotional and mental states.

Dioptase

     This striking crystal is a Copper silicate found in veins of Copper oxidized by air and water. Dioptase is relatively soft for a gemstone but it has great “fire”, that is, it has a remarkable dispersal of light rays and play of colors, so that transparent stones are highly regarded and rare. The intense green color stimulates all levels of body, mind, and spirit, particularly enhancing subtle perception and psychic abilities. Dioptase is also an appropriate stone to use when initiating new projects and stages of growth. You may find that its rapid cleansing action is best administered in small doses – hold or wear the stone for only a few minutes at a time, especially if close to the Heart Chakra.

Dumortierite

     An unusual and attractive stone, Dumortierite has a variegated coloring that suggests an easy movement between disparate conditions and states. It is found in metamorphic rocks rich in Aluminum and in some pegmatites, and is often inter-grown with Quartz. The best quality stones come from Nevada. This gemstone rarely forms large crystals, so is cut into cabochons and ornaments. Dumortierite will not melt (it is used in industry for lining furnaces): in healing, the stone’s steadfastness helps us to maintain our equilibrium.

Emerald

     Emerald is the precious green variety of the mineral Beryl. It forms in granite and pegmatite rocks, taking its color from additional chromium and vanadium atoms. The range of colors goes from a plastic-looking milky grass-green to the richest of transparent greens like deep woods in springtime. It is no wonder that Emerald has always has a magical association with the plant kingdom and with fertility and abundance.

Epidote

  • Color: Black, Brown, Green, and Pistachio Green.

  • Luster: Dull to Vitreous.

  • Origins: Alaska, Austria, Brazil, Norway, Peru, and Switzerland.

     Almost identical in structure and appearance to Tourmaline, Epidote was not identified as a different mineral until the early part of the 20th century. One way in which it certainly does differ from Tourmaline is in its comparatively small range of colors, the most popular of which being a yellow-green reminiscent of pistachio nuts (and so called pistacite). Good sources of Epidote are Austria, Sri Lanka, Alaska, and Peru. In healing, Epidote is valued for its sturdy, buttressing energy.  

Fire Agate

Flint

     Flint is a variety of Quartz mixed with chalcedony, which was formed by sea fungi and silica-rich shells laid down in ancient oceans. When broken, flint has very sharp edges, which made it useful to our ancestors for tools and weapons. It was also used for making fires as striking flint creates sparks. Often ignored as a plain, unappealing stone, flint represents humankind’s long and ingenious association with the technologies and the magic of stone, and reminds us that the beauty of an object is not only in its appearance, but in its potential uses. Natural flint resembles bone and so became associated with ancestors and Earth Spirits. No stone can give us a deeper feeling for our history.

Fluorite

     Many Fossils with striking patters and shapes have been regarded as protective and powerful talismans for thousands of years. All Fossils, regardless of their appearance, can be used to heal. Different types of Fossils have different magical properties and attributes:

Ammonites: Ancient sea creature shells forming expanding spirals with complex surface patterns. Strengthen the chakra system and helps us to accept change and the cycle of time.

     Garnet is formed from complex mixtures of minerals resulting in a wide range of colors and compositions. However, it is with the color red that the stone is usually associated. Indeed, the name “Garnet” is thought to come from the Latin word for pomegranate, the seeds of which resemble small pieces of red Garnet. It is believed that Garnet will help brighten dark souls and bring hope to people who need it. Garnet will protect its wearer from baneful energies and will send those energies back to where they came from.​ Garnet will protect from gossip and if you're being lied about Garnet will send those lies back to the person responsible. Whenever you hear unwholesome remarks or feel threatened, place this stone between your source of your trouble and the energy will bounce right back to them.

Haematite

  • Color: Metallic Gray-Black or Reddish-Black.

     This commonly occurring mineral has a high Iron content. Usually found in rounded, kidney-shaped lumps, it was dug out of the world’s first mines in Africa. It can be used to make a red pigment, which was one sought after as a sacred substance. Of all grounding stones, Haematite is the most useful for bringing our awareness to the here and now. In an exceedingly small proportion of people, however, it has the opposite effect: in these cases, the reflective polished surface opens awareness to the hidden, magical worlds of spirits.

Halite (Rock Salt)

     Halite is the name given to Rock Salt. The Halite crystals found today were formed during dry, hot periods of prehistory when ancient inland seas evaporated. Halite is often found alongside other mineral evaporates, such as Gypsum. Mined since the earliest part of the Stone Age, Salt has long been a valuable commodity. As well as being an essential element of the human diet (in moderation) and an effective preservative, Halite crystals are a powerful healer. However, they are highly absorbent, so they must be handled and stored carefully.

Heliodor

     This clean, bright stone is the yellow variety of Beryl, colored by Iron. It is often found with Quartz and Albite. Its name derives from the Greek words “Helion” and “Doron”, and means “Gift of the Sun”. And like a bright early morning, Heliodor has a cleansing, opening energy. It is particularly good clearing away outworn ideas and unhelpful habits, and for resolving confusion. The stone’s energy is even lighter and fresher than that of good-quality Citrine or Lemon Quartz, making Heliodor well worth using as a healing crystal when you need to make important decisions or changes in your life.

     Also known as :Water Sapphire”, Iolite is similar in color to Sapphire – a translucent, violet-blue – but from some angles it shows brownish-yellow or pale, blue-gray. It is fairly common and found in sedimentary gneiss. As a crystal that changes color depending on the angle from which you view it, Iolite has the ability to reveal new perspective.

     Jasper is a type of Quartz colored by a variety of impurities. Haematite makes Jaspers red, Limonite makes them brown or yellow and Chlorite makes them green. Jasper has a long history, having been used to make amulets and ornaments for many centuries. Its modern name is thought to derive from the ancient Assyrian word for the stone, “Ashpu”. Not only was it often red, the revered color of life, but the endless variety of tone and pattern, and the fact that Jasper forms in massive, carvable blocks, made it a valuable commodity.

Jet

     Jet is the waterlogged wood of prehistoric Monkey Puzzle trees, compacted by pressure under the sea and washed ashore when storms disturb its underwater beds. It was popularized in the 19th century by Queen Victoria, who wore Jet from Whitby, Yorkshire, in mourning for her husband, Prince Albert. Many dark, grounding stones originate deep within the planet as volcanic materials and so have a fiery, seething quality. Jet, on the other hand, is calm, cool, and balanced. It tends to be quite a gentle way to “return to oneself”. Working with Jet often feels somewhat like sitting beneath the ancient branches of a protective tree.

Kunzite

  • Color: Lilac Pink and Pink (Hiddenite is Green).

     This beautiful pink crystal, named after the American gemstone specialist G. F. Kunz, who discovered it as the start of the 20th century, is the most sought-after member of the Spodumene family ( to which the delicate green hidden Hiddenite also belongs). It forms long, straited prisms which can be opaque but are often deeply translucent or completely transparent. Kunzite’s color from a side view is pale, but looking down the length of the crystal, it deepens to an appealing pink violet. Occasionally, Spodumene crystals will contain areas of pink and green together.

Kyanite

  • Color: Blue to Blue-Black, Gray, Green, or White, sometimes streaked.

  • Luster: Mother of Pearl and Vitreous.

  • Hardness: 4 – 7 (depending on the direction of stress).

     Forming in thin, blade-like crystals that often radiate from a common center, Kyanite is found in metamorphic rock. The white or gray variety is called Rhaeticite. Kyanite is unusual in that its hardness depends on the direction in which a crystal is stressed (because of this, the stone is also known as Disthene, meaning :2 strengths”). It is rare of gem quality but is useful in industry for its resistance to heat and low electrical conduction. In healing, however, Kyanite is an excellent conductor of life-energy.
